The Callisto Protocol Dev Shares Grotesque Concept Art

One of the head developers behind the survival-horror game Callisto Protocol shares a grotesque piece of concept art.

The Callisto Protocol was originally revealed to fans two years ago as a horror game set within the Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds universe. It’s an odd premise to many, since the original PUBG is a battle royale game that isn’t particularly known for an overarching narrative or lore building. That said, it is being developed by Striking Distance Studios, a game development studio headed up by Dead Space co-creator Glen Schofield.

Many were impressed by The Callisto Protocol and its cinematic trailer, where it presented the same atmosphere and tone that were present in Dead Space. While fans haven’t received many in-depth updates since its development, Glen Schofield has stated that development has been going rather well, sharing smaller updates and pictures on social media. This includes behind-the-scenes photos and pieces of concept art.

The latest photo from Schofield showcases a closeup of one of the grotesque creatures that players will encounter in The Callisto Protocol. It has tons of pulsating veins across its skin, along with glistening pores. The closeup does make it hard to determine what the actual creature supposed to look like, but it suitably makes it shrouded in mystery until the developers decide to share more information.

Schofield notes that this update was also posted on Friday the 13th, which is a rather appropriate day for such a photo. Schofield praised the game’s development team and stated that fans should keep an eye out and follow the account, a more news regarding The Callisto Protocol is coming next week. As previous updates that Schofield has shared on Twitter have been teasing about more information, it seems like fans will finally get another good look at the game.

Despite the quiet updates, there are still many who are highly anticipating The Callisto Protocol. Fans and other industry leaders who saw the tweet expressed their excitement for the upcoming update from Schofield, including Geoff Keighley. Fans have noted that Keighley had announced that he visited the studio back in March, where he was likely to see footage of the game. Some fans even speculated that this update will even show off The Callisto Protocol‘s release date, but that remains to be seen. With this game and the Dead Space remake both on the way, there is plenty for space-faring horror fans to look forward to.

The Callisto Protocol is scheduled to release in 2022 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
