The summer of 2022 in Columbus will be a summer of big art. To name a few of the coming attractions: large tapestries by Raphael at the Columbus Museum of Art, monumental environmental sculptures at the Dawes Arboretum, a larger-than-life “Immersive Monet” show and the return of two big events on hiatus for two years because of the pandemic: the Columbus Arts Festival and the huge Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition.

• “Immersive Monet & the Impressionists,” opens June 18: On the heels of the ongoing “Immersive Van Gogh” exhibit, another large-scale art exhibit that surrounds the viewer will focus on the works of Monet, Renoir, Degas and others. As with “Immersive Van Gogh,” Massimiliano Siccardi is the creator of the new event, which promises 500,000 cubic feet of art.

The Dawes Arboretum

• “Avian Avatars,” May 27-spring 2023: Six monumental sculptures — up to 20 feet tall — are crafted of bamboo and mixed media by The Myth Makers, New Jersey artists Donna Dodson and Andy Moerlein. The works reflect Ohio birds and Dawes Arboretum history. Placed throughout the arboretum, they are designed to slowly disappear into nature.

• “I Hear America Singing: Contemporary Photography from America,” June 3-Jan. 22: Presented by the nonprofit organization FotoFocus, the exhibit includes works by 16 photographers who capture the diversity of lived experiences in the United States.

Scioto Mile, along the Downtown riverfront
• Columbus Arts Festival, June 10-12: After a two-year absence, the Greater Columbus Arts Council-sponsored event returns with 200 visual artists, entertainment and food outdoors along the Scioto Mile riverfront. About 500,000 people are expected to attend.

• “Portal For(e) the Ephemeral Passage,” June 10-Aug. 14: The interdisciplinary exhibit will emphasize Black feminist voices in contemporary art and performance. It represents a culmination of three years of work by Artist Residency Award recipient jaamil olawale kosoko and will include a multichannel installation in the Film/Video Studio.

• “Raphael — The Power of Renaissance Images: The Dresden Tapestries and their Impact,” July 15-Oct. 30: The museum is the only American venue for these six tapestries, woven in the 17th century and on loan from the Old Masters Picture Gallery of Dresden, Germany.
